Victor was seven when he started attending The Girls & Boys Brigade. His father had recently passed away and his mother, who spoke very little English, was surviving on a disability pension. Attending the Brigade for over ten years, Victor shared how the staff were there for him during some of his most challenging and life-changing moments.

“The staff were always there for me, offering me incredible support. Undoubtedly The Girls & Boys Brigade helped shape my values and my sense of identity,” Victor shared.

Victor remembers the Brigade as a familiar space he would enjoy. He found comfort in the familiar faces and the activities and it was a place he could depend on.

Being from a Russian immigrant family, the fondest memories he has are of the conversations with the staff and the friends he made. With his mum not speaking much English, it felt like the only place he could go and be treated like a young adult, sharing his thoughts and ideas and curiosities.

Now living in London for the past several years, Victor works as a Chartered Accountant. Like many of us, he is looking forward to life returning to normal and seeing what the future
holds.

It is thanks to caring supporters like you, that young people like Victor can find support for a promising future. We can’t thank you enough for being there for Victor and others like him.
