Providing opportunities for growth

The Youth Program works closely with young people aged 11-18, empowering them to confidently navigate their high school years. Our youth support workers are trusted advisors, always there for youth to turn to. They work with youth, their families, schools and community organisations to help youth navigate challenges, stay motivated at school and build life and vocational skills.

Through a combination of educational support, art, sport, excursions and mentoring, we help young people to become confident, independent & resilient young adults. This helps our youth develop bright aspirations for future study and employment.

After School Drop-In

The After-School Program is a drop-in service open every day of the school term. Here, youth can relax, find respite and access resources and support, both crisis and preventative. We encourage youth to take part in a range of structured and unstructured activities.

Monday Sports Nights take place every week and promote physical activity and healthy lifestyles while also teaching youth about teamwork and sportsmanship. This helps youth build positive relationships with their peers and with role models.

Wednesday Dinner Night brings youth together every week to share a meal with their peers and staff. We encourage youth to get involved by learning to cook their favourite meals.

School Holiday Program
School Holiday Program

The School Holiday program gives youth a space to unwind, spend time with friends and explore their interests and hobbies during the school holidays. Through planned workshops and excursions, we help youth participate in educational and recreational opportunities that help them go beyond their comfort zone and build self-confidence. Our goal is to help youth to explore Sydney and stay active while participating in sporting and adventure activities such as hiking, kayaking, and playing team sports.

Vocational and Skill Workshops

We partner with Sydney based organisations to provide vocational workshops for youth. These give youth the opportunity to expand their skills and abilities in specific areas, including IT and hospitality. Through this program, youth become empowered to explore their options for future study and employment.

Camps
Camps

Each year we deliver two camps taking our youth outside of Sydney for beach holidays and camping trips. These camps are opportunities to build trusting relationships with peers and staff whilst providing a holiday away from inner-city high-rise communities and family stress. Youth participate in physically and mentally challenging activities that build confidence and life-long skills.

It’s like family because you grow up with the same kids from when you’re little. There were so many different types of kids that came here, but everyone got along. The Brigade was a really comfortable environment and I have a more open-minded view of people because of being here. It has made me a more sociable person.
